Heatwaves are set to sweep the nation, with every capital city, excluding Hobart, feeling the burn and reaching temperatures above 30 degrees.
The week-long heatwave is the result of a low pressure trough that is “really slow moving” according to Weatherzone’s Joel Pippard, which explains the unusually long duration of the wave. It began in Western Australia over the weekend, with Perth having hit a high of 38 degree yesterday, and is expected to hit NSW and Victoria in the coming days.
Sydney is set for high 20’s and sunshine before hitting 34 on Thursday. A shower later in the day will see temperatures drop, but it is a different story for the Western suburbs who will bear the brunt of the heat. Suburbs like Penrith and Richmond will be sitting on mid to high 30’s all week, with temperatures soaring to 41 degrees on Thursday, and no cool change forecast until later in the weekend.
Melbourne will also be warming up with mid to high 20’s forecast for most of the week, and à high of 36 expected on Wednesday. With no rain forecast the warm weather is set to continue at least through to Sunday which will hit a high of 29 degrees.
The rest of the country will also swelter with Adelaide predicted to hit a high of 38 degrees on Thursday, Canberra set for 5 consecutive days in the mid thirties and even Hobart reaching an unusually warm 29 degrees.
