Australia’s system of government is primarily based on the existence of political parties. While the Members of the House of Representatives are individually elected to represent constituents within each electoral division, in most cases Members belong to and support a political party.
The two dominant political parties in the Australian political system are the Australian Labor Party, and the Liberal/National “Coalition.”
