Passing shadows at City Recital Hall

François Vantomme François Vantomme

Nowhere to hide
No one to blame
Musicians stare at each other
Shadows look after them

There is no conductor
There are no partitions
Musicians know what to play
Shadows know the moves

No white collars
No blue either
Musicians are all in black
Shadows can finally shine

Musicians look at us
They are here for us
We look at shadows
They are here with us

But the end comes
Instruments are taken away
Musicians are now gone
Shadows have long disappeared

The stage is empty
Yet it is full of light
This is where music lives
That of J.-S. Bach

Olivier Vojetta

Text written after seeing Tafelmusik – Bach and His World by Musica Viva Australia at City Recital Hall, Sydney, on Monday 4th June 2018.
