French Market 2019: Enjoy a piece of France on your doorstep!

Thousands of Sydneysiders passionate of all things French will gather on the Oval of Killarney Heights Public School on Sunday 10 November 2019 from 9am – 4pm for the 15th annual French Market for a chance to immerse themselves in a true French cultural experience.

For the first time, workshops and activities in French will be offered to our visitors throughout the day: family yoga; kids athletics exercises; children’s book reading; a talk on bilingualism; wine and beer tasting, and more.

The historical display from the 1er d’Artillerie de La Marine Inc., a French naval artillery re-enactment group, will be back this year and will engage visitors of all ages.

Over 60 stalls of well-known professional merchants from all over Sydney will display and sell authentic French products such as saucissons, foie-gras, pâtés and other terrines; macarons, croissants, baguettes; French cheeses; books, magazines, DVDs and Blu-Rays in French language; jewellery and fashion accessories inspired by French culture; French vintage small furniture and poster reproductions, and so on.

Visitors will also be able to eat with a French twist: a merguez (sausage) barbecue, raclette, sweet and savoury crêpes, waffles, French fries and croque-monsieurs; while listening to some French music in the background.

Rides, games and face painting will enchant the younger crowd. It promises to be a fabulous social or family outing!

The market attracts an estimated 7000 visitors per year.

It is organised by FANS, the French-speaking Association of the North Shore, a not-for-profit association running a French-English bilingual program at Killarney Heights Public School. Members of FANS will be channelling their inner Manu Feildel by baking up a storm and donating quiches, cakes and other treats to be sold at the market. All proceeds go to the French-English bilingual program.

Some of the highlights of the 15th Annual French Market 2019

ABOUT FANS (The French-speaking Association of the North Shore)

FANS was created in 1998 by French families settling in Sydney’s North Shore area. Over 100 families are currently members.

The French-English bilingual program of Killarney Heights Public School has attracted many families to the Forestville/Killarney Heights area.
French-speaking families enjoy the opportunity to be part of the Australian community, and give their children the chance to be taught in French and keep in touch with their French background and culture.
Many English-speaking Australian families are also attracted to the school as their children get exposure to a second language, which has recognised educational benefits.
