The Bayside Council has responded by placing a shipping container at Brighton-Le-Sands, effectively obstructing the foreshore. To enhance the area, the container has been adorned with a mural, and plans are in place to plant two large pine trees nearby.
Additionally, a sign will be installed to prevent anyone from enjoying an improved view of the bay. Council officials acknowledged these actions following incidents of vandalism in the coastal suburb, which could incur fines of up to $1 million. “The council is actively investigating these occurrences and has promptly placed a shipping container at the location to obstruct the desired view,” the council stated on Facebook.
In 2021, after trees were cut down with chainsaws to enhance views, the council had also positioned shipping containers in the area to thwart vandals from achieving their intended water views. According to the Bayside Council’s website, “These shipping containers remain in place. One of the council’s strategies to enhance the local tree canopy is to plant two new trees for every tree that has been removed or poisoned.”
